Cosmetic Surgery Risks
If you heard on TV or from friends about horror cosmetic
surgery facelift complications, don't despair. Major
complications are rare. Minor complications such as nausea,
swelling and bruising are part of the normal process following
facelift surgery.
Major complications such as infections are easily treatable
with antibiotics and post-operative management. The standard of
hygiene, technique has advance considerably with some complex
surgery done a decade ago is now refined to a more refine and
simpler procedure.
Haematoma is a collection of blood, as a result of internal
bleeding during surgery. They are a sack of blood that the body
creates to prevent the body from hemorrhaging blood further. A
revisit to surgery is necessary if there is it has built up too
much. But if the problem is dealt immediately, the long term
impact would be minimal.
Nerve paralysis following facelifts happens in very rare
cases. Nerve paralysis (or neuropraxia) occurs when the surgeon
accidentally cut one of your facial nerves which may cause
muscle paralysis or drooping of the cheeks. However, if you do
get nerve paralysis, the majority of people would fully
recover.
If you have pre-existing conditions such as diabetes,
cardiovascular problems or if you are a smoker, please consult
your physicians before surgery. Having a pre-existing condition
may have an impact on your recovery.
It is important before surgery to prevent blood clots from
forming up in your body, especially in your legs. Even though
you are undergoing a facelift, DVT (deep vein thrombosis) can
happen and they tend to collect around your leg veins. Make
sure you do increase circulation by performing leg exercises or
wear tight compression stockings.
